Handicapped shower installation with grab bars. This is a prefabricated fiberglass enclosure. Our bathroom remodeler demo'ed the bathroom and changed the locations of the sink, toilet, and shower. The original bathtub was eliminated. Recess lights were installed in the shower and in the rest of the bathroom.
The process of tile installation is relatively simple with the effective use of the below-mentioned tool and using the materials like the mixture if thin mortar and grout. Following are some tools:
· Tile nipper
· Rubber tile float for grouting
· Notched tile trowel for applying thin-set mortar
· Flat margin trowel
· Rubber mallet
· Tile spacers
· Large sponges
· Tape measure
· Chalk line for snapping a line on the floor
· Bubble level
The materials used are as under:
· Thin set mortar
· Grout haze remover
· Grout sealer
· Cement backer board and fiberglass seam tape (optional)
So, after the mixture is fully prepared. It’s time for the actual process involved in the tile installation:
1. Install a Cement Board Underlayment
Before tile installing, you should know that the floor will be 1/2" higher after the installation. In washrooms, you may need to adjust the toilet, vanity, and other fixtures to compensate. In a kitchen pay attention to any appliances under countertops and make sure they fit between the new height of the tile floor and the bottom of the counter.
2. Locate the Center of the Room
Find the center point of the room where you want to install the tiles. First, measure across the room and mark the center. Then measure the room in the other direction, and mark the center. Draw a chalk line between both center points; the intersection of the two lines will be the center of the room.
3. Spread Out the Tiles
Layout the tiles in a dry run, starting at the center and following both chalk lines. Place spacers between the tiles to ensure proper distances between them. Reposition the starting point if necessary.
4. First Install the Center Tile
Place the center tile, using the type of adhesive recommended by the manufacturer. Hold the notched edge of the trowel at about a 45-degree angle to the floor and apply the adhesive to the floor.
Press the tile in place while twisting it back and forth to secure it into position. Use forward and back-ward motion to ensure that tile in fully intact with the ground.
5. Install the Remaining Tiles
Use the center tile as a reference tile, and install the remaining tiles along straight lines. Install only a few tiles at a time, spreading adhesive for two or three tiles. If adhesive oozes up between tiles when you press the tile into the place you are using too much adhesive.
6. Allow the Adhesive to Cure
After installing the tile, allow it to cure overnight or for the amount of time recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.
7. Mix the Grout
Mix the grout to a consistency similar to peanut butter. Grout comes in a wide variety of colors, and it can be tinted to match your decor. Scoop some grout onto the tiles, and use a rubber grout float to work it into the joints. Spread the grout with the float at an angle to the grout lines to force it as far as possible into the joints.
8. Clean the Tile
After you finish working the grout into the joints, wipe off the residue with a damp sponge being careful to not pull any grout out of the grout lines between tiles. For best results, rinse the sponge frequently. Allow the grout to cure to a light haze, and buff the tiles with a soft damp cloth.
Here are some factors to look after when deciding for the tile contractor:
1. Look for an experienced tile contractor
You may be tempted to hire a non-tiler or a handyman due to their low cost. But it is always advisable to go for the expert tiler with at least 3 years of experience because it can save you money in the longer run.
2. Take Advice form Professionals
This is helped when you are hiring a professional. Always take the help of engineers, architects, designers and showroom experts. They usually know who can fulfill your job without hassle. Moreover, you also have to do some research so that you may not fall victim to inbound marketing.
3. Asked these Important Questions
You need to ask a few important questions when deciding for the tile tile contractor like:
1. The quantity of material required.
2. Duration for the project to complete.
3. Number of labors required.
4. Either he/she has worked before like this project.
After getting a decent answer, move further and check for other factors.
4. Look at the samples of the previously completed projects
Always ask the tile contractor for showing the sample of his previous work. This can be pictures directly taken from the workspace or pamphlet used for marketing. Besides looking for the actual process, you can also look for the communication and professionalism of the contractor. Besides this, the contractor’s adherence to the proper date and time is also very crucial since it ensures that you will get your project within the due date.
5. Do some paperwork
You should always start working after a suitable contract, which should include things like the price of materials and labor, schedule and terms of payment.
